Frequently Asked Questions.
Q: What are Electronic Shelf Labels (ESLs)?
A: ESLs are digital price tags that replace traditional paper tickets in-store. They can show prices, images, QR codes, ratings, and more. Using e-ink technology (similar to a Kindle), they automatically update with the latest prices, promotions, and product info in your branded template.
Q: Why use a digital pricing system?
A: ESLs save time and reduce errors by automatically updating pricing and product information. Staff no longer need to manually change paper tags, freeing them up for more valuable tasks. There are also cost and operational benefits.
Q: How do ESLs work?
A: ESLs connect wirelessly to your central POS system. Access Points (APs) on the ceiling receive updates from your server and send them to each label, instantly or on a scheduled basis.
Q: How is information sent to the labels?
A: Our proprietary Radio Frequency (RF) signal transmits data securely to each label.
Q: How is RF different from Infrared (IR)?
A: IR requires line-of-sight, like a TV remote, so obstacles or distance can block it. RF travels through obstacles and over longer distances, meaning fewer access points are needed — even for small stores.
Q: Is the transmission secure?
A: Yes! We use a proprietary signal and protocol to ensure your data is safe and efficient.
Q: How can I confirm labels are updated correctly?
A: Two-way communication ensures each label reports back. You’ll see whether updates are successful, and automated alerts notify you if there’s ever an issue.
Q: How are ESLs powered?
A: Each label has an internal battery — no external wiring needed.
Q: How long does the battery last?
A: Based on adjusting prices 3 times per day the average battery life is expected to last 10+ years
Q: How are ESLs installed?
A: Labels clip into shelf rails (replacing existing data stripping) or attach using hooks or free-standing holders. We also offer professional in-store installation for a smooth setup.
Q: What maintenance is required?
A: Very little — just wipe the screens occasionally with a soft cloth to remove dust.
Q: Can ESLs be used in fridges or freezers?
A: Yes! Standard labels work from 0°C to 40°C. Freezer-specific labels operate from -25°C to 0°C.
Q: Can labels be used in wet areas?
A: Yes, with options ranging from splashproof (IP54) to fully waterproof and dustproof (IP68). Perfect for seafood counters, fridges, or other wet environments.
Q: Will ESLs integrate with my existing systems?
A: Absolutely! Our proprietary system works with any POS or ERP. We handle integration to ensure everything runs smoothly with minimal disruption.
Q: What’s involved in installation?
A: Three simple steps:
-
Install AP units in the ceiling connected via POE.
-
Fit shelf rails, hooks, or other label attachments.
-
Bind labels to their corresponding products.
Q: Can I customise the label screens?
A: Yes! E-ink screens are highly flexible. You can create branded templates with promotions, icons, QR codes, and graphics — far more options than paper tags.
Q: What colours are available?
A:
-
3-colour screens: Black, white, and red or yellow.
-
4-colour screens: Black, white, red, and yellow.
These colours can be used for text, images, or backgrounds.
Q: Can recurring price changes be automated?
A: Yes! For example, you could automatically discount bread by 30% every day at 4pm — no manual intervention needed.
